Thanks, Musique :)

She died last year. A lady. Great pianist. Unfortunately the recordings left are little publicized.

Tatiana Shebanova, an outstanding Russian pianist, died on the 1st of March, 2011, in Warsaw. She was the winner of the 2nd prize in the 10th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition held in Warsaw. She left behind exceptional heritage in the Chopin domain.

One of her outstanding achievements was recording of the set of almost all Chopin compositions in the opus order for the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw (NIFC). It was the first such a project in the history of phonography. She performed concerts in a piano duo with her husband Jarosław Drzewiecki and with her son Stanisław Drzewiecki.

Tatiana Shebanova studied in the class of professor Wiktor Mierżanow in the Moscow Conservatory. She received her diploma in 1976. For the following ten years she was the assistant of professor Mierżanow.

She was the prize-winner at piano competitions in Prague (1st prize, "Concertino Praha", 1969), Geneva (1st prize, 1976), Warsaw (2nd prize and special prizes: of the Fryderyk Chopin Society in Warsaw for the best performance of the Polonaise and of the Warsaw Philharmonic for the best performance of the piano concerto, Chopin Competition, 1980) and Brussels (1st prize, Competition "Bösendorfer – Empire Grand Prix", 1990). She participated in the Pyotr Tchaikovsky International Piano Music Competition in Moscow in 1974.

Since her studies she developed her rich performance activity. She performed in almost every European country, in the Republic of South Africa, the Philippines and in Japan, where she had 11 artistic tournées. She delivered concerts in a piano duo with her husband Jarosław Drzewiecki and with her son Stanisław Drzewiecki.

The pianist offered a rich repertoire, covering every epoch and musical style. Among others she performed all Chopin compositions, a full set of preludes and fugues (Das Wohltemperierte Klavier) by Bach, all piano sonatas by Mozart, all Songs Without Lyrics by Mendelssohn and dozens of compositions by Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Skriabin, Débussy, Ravel, Prokofiew, Rachmaninow and others.

In 1990, February 28, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Samuel Feinberg, a gala concert took place in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory at which Tatiana Shebanova accompanied by the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Genadij Rożdiestwienski performed the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Feinberg. It was a replica of the concert from 1954, when the piano part was performed by the composer (musical grandfather of Shebanova), and the performance was conducted by the father of Rożdiestwienski.

The artist left behind many CD recordings (about 30 LP and CD discs). The discs with her performances (among others compositions by Chopin, a rich selection) were published by the following companies: Melodia, Polskie Nagrania "Muza", Dux, Tonpress, Victor, Pony-Canyon, Panton and Empire.
